GEGAC Senior Dentist Dr Gary Nowrungsah with Jamie and Meela, who have both been getting their 6-monthly dental check-ups at GEGAC since they were 2 years old.
Hands up if you have Dental Week 2025 marked on your calendar?
Yeah, we didn’t think so.
But the Dental team at GEGAC definitely does!
And with Dental Week coming up August 5 – 11 we’re celebrating those champions in community that are doing the right thing by their health and keeping their chompers in good order.
Champions like little man Jamie and his sister Meela.
It was great to see Jamie and Meela last month when Jamie came in to get his mouth guard fitted by Dr Gary.
Jamie and Meela’s dad, Jamie Barton, has done a really good job of making sure his kids have regular check ups, and as a result they have beautiful smiles and healthy teeth.
Little Jamie had his first check up in 2018, when he was 2.
At first, he needed a bit of work done but we got that sorted out no drama and now it’s just a matter of a regular six month visit for a cleaning and check up.
Meela has also been coming in since she was 2.
“Two is the perfect age to start bringing your Boorai in,” says GEGAC’s Dental Coordinator, Judy-Anne Alexander.
“That way they get used to being in the chair, they see that the dentist isn’t a scary place, and we can catch any issues with their teeth or gums before they become too much of a problem.”
GEGAC’s dental services are free for Aboriginal people, and low cost for non-Aboriginal members of community.
