“I’ve Always Wanted to Help My Community” – Taylah Carter Joins the GEGAC Family

By Troy Brown

Taylah Carter is making strides in her professional life while holding on to her dreams.

Taylah is the new Cultural Support Planner here at GEGAC.

She embraces her role with a passion that reflects her deep-rooted connection to her community.

Growing up in Bairnsdale, Taylah was surrounded by the rich culture and traditions of the GunaiKurnai people.

This upbringing instilled in her a strong sense of identity and responsibility to give back to her community.

Taylah says she approaches each day with a commitment to learning and growth, and her role at GEGAC allows her to blend her personal values with her professional ambitions.

“I’ve always wanted to help my community,” Taylah says. “Being a Cultural Support Planner means I can play my part into making our organisation better.”

GEGAC’s Cultural Support Planners help Indigenous kids in out of home care develop and maintain their Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander cultural identity.

That includes things like researching the child’s heritage, connecting them with cultural education opportunities, and facilitatating input from family and community.

Taylah is already being mentored by all her aunties and family members that work here.

“Both my nans have worked here on both mum and dads’ side, so GEGAC has always been family in a way,” she says.

But Taylah’s ambitions don’t stop there.

With a heart set on making a difference in the lives of children, she has her sights set on studying childcare in the future.

“Growing up I have a lot of cousins and I’ve always been around kids,” she explains. “I believe that every child deserves a nurturing environment to grow and learn, and I want to be part of creating that.”

Her aspirations reflect a desire not only for personal growth but also for contributing to a more inclusive and supportive community.

We welcome Taylah here at GEGAC and can’t wait to see what she’s got in store for us.
