Would you know what to do in the event of an emergency at GEGAC?
Last month GEGAC launched a new series of emergency response training events for GEGAC wardens, chief wardens, and deputy wardens, thanks to funding through a VACCHO Emergency Response Grant.
The emergency response training was just one part of a broader effort at GEGAC this year to improve our emergency response capability and workplace safety awareness, after an organisational review found a number of knowledge gaps in this area.
The training last month covered essential emergency response skills, including how to properly use fire extinguishers and apply knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act in real workplace scenarios.
“We had a great turnout for the emergency responses trainings, with 11 staff attending day one and 14 staff at day 2,” said Joyce Nowrungsah, GEGAC’s Workplace Health and Safety Coordinator. “The trainer’s enthusiasm and energy meant that staff were really engaged, which was great. One participant even said the trainer made OHS legislation “look like fun” – a huge achievement considering the complexity of the topic!”
Further Workplace Health and Safety training opportunities are planned, as we continue building a proactive, safety-first culture across the organisation.
Participation is mandatory for those who have volunteered as safety officers, and GEGAC sincerely appreciates your commitment to creating a safer workplace for all.
“A big thank you to Destiny Harrison and our new Learning & Development Coordinator Stephen McShane for helping to organise and coordinate the sessions – your support made it all possible.”
Evacuation drills will soon be scheduled for the different GEGAC sites.
For upcoming training opportunities, keep an eye on the GEGAC calendar on the home page of the Intranet.
