Responding to Community Feedback, Playgroup Extends to 5 Days a Week

By popular demand, GEGAC’s Boorai Supported Playgroup is extending to five days a week.

From Monday, 13 May, the playgroup will operate from 10am – 2pm Monday through Friday.

“We heard from many families over the past few years that they wanted the playgroup happening five days a week,” said Boorai Playgroup Facilitator Aunty Margaret Pearce. “We heard that feedback, and are now very pleased to be able to do this for community.”

Another way GEGAC has been able to respond to feedback from community is by the introduction of cultural-themed events and activities at the playgroup, as well as health and wellbeing talks and information sessions.

“The early years are such an important time for our Boorai to learn about their culture and be surrounded by it,” Aunty Margaret said. “When they are connected to culture at a young age, it makes them stronger throughout their life.”

Programming at Boorai Supported Playgroup will include cultural activities such as bush-tucker cooking, basket-weaving, Keeping Place and on-country excursions, story time, kinder gym, health education and medical checks, and special guest talks from GEGAC staff on a wide range of topics – everything from financial literacy to healthy eating.

“We want families to tell us what they want playgroup to include,” Aunty Margaret said. “If there are particular health topics they are interested in, or cultural events and excursions they want to take, then we want to respond to that. Our playgroup will be shaped by the families that take part in it, so we are listening to them and providing what they need.”

Lunch is provided at Boorai Supported Playgroup.

Transportation is also available by arrangement with Aunty Rayleen Harrison on 0439 066 052.
