Work is coming along on a multi-use shed and community activities space at the GEGAC-owned property at 104 Day Street, Bairnsdale.
The shed, which will be used for men activities and gatherings but also for activities for all community as well, will be open and ready for use later this year.
This site was previously the home of GEGAC’s Meerindoo Youth Accommodation Services.
GEGAC’s Quaranook Engagement Officer, Scott King, who is helping oversee the redevelopment of the shed, said that although providing a safe and welcoming space for men’s business was a priority of the project, he was excited that the shed would also be used by both men and women of all ages.
“We have seen that there is a real energy in community for learning, for workshops, places to come together and share and teach,” he said. “That could be anything. Music, language, craft, woodworking, art… you name it. I’d love this shed to be an asset for community that everyone can benefit from.”
There will be an opportunity in the coming months for community to contribute to the shed redevelopment through art and decorating.
First things first though – it needs a name, a strong cultural name.
Do you have an idea for what the shed should be called?
Remember, it will be a gathering and activities space for men, but not only for men.
