GEGAC’s Danielle Ryan Named in Top 100 Netballers in Country Victoria

By Troy Brown

Congratulations to our very own Danielle Ryan, who has been named by The Weekly Times as one of top 100 netballers in country Victoria.

Danielle, who is a Koorie Kare Field Worker in our Extended Community Care Services Team, grew up in Bairnsdale and started playing netball around the age of 8.

Talking with Danielle about her what first memories are of netball she says “I remember just shooting hoops and playing up at the Bairnsdale netball courts as a little kid.”

‘‘Netball squad tournaments were always fun,” she remembers.

Danielle started playing netball on Thursday nights over at the Bairnsdale Netball Courts as a young girl.

Since then, she has played in a number of teams and leagues including state leagues, the East Gippsland league, and the Omeo and district league.

For the past two years Danielle has played for Swan Reach, where she has won two league best and fairests and two club best and fairest awards.

She is also the coach for A grade and B grade.

When asked about how she felt when she found out this news she said, “I was surprised because I know there are so many talented netballers in Victoria, but it was great to see that I made it.”

This year she is ready to make the big step and win a grand final for Swan Reach, as they have made it the past two years but have fallen short both times.

Danielle says she is also excited to be able to watch her kids play netball and football at the same club as her and partner, as a family.

Congratulations Danielle on your amazing achievement, and we hope to see more in the future.
